Local PostalAnnex + Partners with 'Cell Phones for Soldiers'
Local shipping store asks residents to donate old cell phones to convert into calling cards for soldiers in need

Woodland Hills, CA (Grassroots Newswire) February 5, 2008 -- As the digital age continues to evolve, newer models of cell phones are available more frequently, making the new ones a hot commodity and the old ones left to collect dust. In an effort to make use of those old phones, PostalAnnex + of Woodland Hills has partnered with Cell Phones for Soldiers to support soldiers in need.
Beginning in February and continuing through March, the local community is encouraged to drop off their old cell phone(s) at PostalAnnex +, located at 21781 Ventura Blvd.. Each phone donated at the Woodland Hills shipping store will be sent to Cell Phones for Soldiers and sold to ReCellular. The money is then used to buy phone cards for soldiers stationed overseas – each phone is enough to buy an hour's worth of calling time.

"Many people buy new phones as soon as a new model comes out and are left wondering what to do with the old one. This partnership will provide a service for community members and an opportunity to help soldiers contact their family and friends while away from home," said Edwin Akhavan, owner of PostalAnnex + of Woodland Hills.

Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist from Norwell, Mass., with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered non-profit organization has raised almost $1 million in donations and distributed more than 400,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.
